531 km in a Sedan, Three Rows in a Full-Size: How the 2026 Kia EV4, EV5, and EV9 Cover Different Families

Kia's 2026 lineup includes three all-electric vehicles that together address a wide range of what Ontario families actually need — from a compact sedan to a family-sized SUV to a full three-row all-electric flagship. The EV4, EV5, and EV9 don't overlap much. Each occupies a distinct segment, serves a distinct household type, and arrives at a distinct budget tier. For families in Richmond Hill considering their first fully electric purchase, this overview maps out where each model sits and what it delivers.

All three are confirmed for the Canadian market in 2026. The EV4 FWD is currently available. The EV5 long-range FWD launched in spring 2026 with AWD expected late summer; additional configurations follow through year-end. The EV9 is on dealer lots now across its full trim lineup.

The 2026 Kia EV4: Entry-Level All-Electric for Compact-Car Families

The EV4 is Kia's first all-electric sedan globally — designed for the household that currently drives a compact car and wants to move to electric without shifting to a larger vehicle. It fits neatly in Richmond Hill's driveways, parking structures, and the kind of daily routing that doesn't require a full-size SUV.

It's built on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform and available with two battery options:

  • 58.3 kWh (Light FWD): estimated 378 km all-electric range
  • 81.4 kWh (Wind through GT-Line Limited): estimated 531 km FWD / 482 km AWD-configured trims

The 150 kW front motor powers all FWD trims. AWD configurations are available from Wind onward. DC fast charging via the built-in NACS port takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in an estimated 29 minutes (58.3 kWh) or 31 minutes (81.4 kWh).

Every EV4 comes with a nearly 30-inch combined widescreen display — 12.3-inch multimedia, 12.3-inch cluster, and 5-inch HVAC panel — wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Kia Connect with OTA updates. The cabin holds 408 L of trunk space and seats five.

EV4 is the right fit if: the family drives a compact car today, needs one EV to cover daily driving in Richmond Hill and occasional longer trips, and prioritizes range efficiency and technology in a sedan format.

The 2026 Kia EV5: The Family SUV Entry into All-Electric

The EV5 fills the gap between a compact EV and a full-size three-row. It's a five-passenger electric SUV designed for the household that wants the compact SUV format — Canada's largest vehicle segment — in a fully electric package.

Two battery options are confirmed for Canada:

  • 60.3 kWh (standard range) — arriving later in 2026
  • 81.4 kWh (long range) — available now in FWD; AWD expected late summer 2026

Both options use the NACS charge port. The long-range FWD launched first in spring 2026; AWD and short-range configurations follow through the remainder of the year.

The EV5's interior emphasizes cabin practicality: completely flat-folding second-row seats for maximum cargo space, a front trunk (frunk) for smaller items, ample storage throughout the console area, and the same nearly 30-inch panoramic display found on the EV4 and EV9. Five-passenger seating, available mood lighting, and environmentally considered interior materials define the cabin experience.

The EV5 is the first Kia EV built specifically for Canada and the North American market — a recognition that the compact SUV is where most Canadian families shop, and that the EV segment needed a direct offering in that space.

EV5 is the right fit if: the family needs a five-passenger electric SUV with real cargo flexibility, is buying for the compact SUV segment but wants to go fully electric, and values the practical day-to-day advantages of a crossover format over a sedan.

The 2026 Kia EV9: Full-Size, Three-Row All-Electric for Larger Families

The EV9 is the largest Kia EV, and its case for larger families is built around three things the smaller models can't match: three rows of seating, a 99.8 kWh long-range battery on AWD trims, and a towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg) on AWD configurations.

Powertrain and range:

  • Standard Range RWD (Light): 76.1 kWh battery, 215 hp, est. 370 km
  • Long Range RWD (Wind): 99.8 kWh battery, 201 hp, est. 491 km
  • Long Range AWD (Land and above): 99.8 kWh battery, 379 hp, est. 451–455 km
  • GT AWD: 99.8 kWh battery, 502 hp, est. 418 km

DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent: approximately 20 minutes at a 350 kW station (standard battery) or 24 minutes (long range battery). All trims use NACS.

Cargo space: 573 L behind the third row, 1,233 L behind the second row, and 2,314 L with all rows cleared. Standard seating is 7 passengers; select trims with the Premium Package upgrade to 6-passenger captain's chair layouts. V2L capability is included from the Land with Premium Package onward.

The 2026 EV9 is available now in its full lineup from Light RWD through GT AWD.

EV9 is the right fit if: the family needs three rows, wants AWD and real towing capacity in a fully electric vehicle, and is ready to move up to a full-size SUV footprint.
